Perfect Mardi Gras pied... Lovely cottage on prime waterfront property along the picturesque boating section of Bayou Plaquemine. We renovated this property to a very high standard to use as our part time winter home and for visits to south Louisiana for Mardi Gras and the International Acadian Festival. The kitchen is well fitted with upscale stainless appliances and Gallo-Napoleone granite counters. The extremely well done bath, with full marble floors and shower surround, features upscale A.S. fixtures; the whole of the bath alone costing more than fifteen thousand USD. The extremely large lounge is floored in native cypress wood with a wonderful patina and overlooks the water through new custom windows. Plantation shutters (which originated in the area)and Waverly draperies throughout. There is a waterfront patio done of slate with granite ballast inserts, and a simple but lovely garden done in tropical plantings with a red hibiscus hedge, all on the water. The house is ideal for relaxing in tasteful and casually upscale surrounds. As well the home would make an excellent full time home. A perfect US pied-a-terre to enjoy in a very prosperous and interesting part of the country while the waterfront property appreciates! Please note that we are only interested in trading this property for a small house in France (are willing to redo but prefer connection to water mains and septic to be in place, but not written in stone) and that only since we no longer need this house in that we now own the house next door as well.

| Excellent location in a very picturesque and interesting Creole-Acadian village popular with cinema and film makers. Recently BMW commercials were filmed in the area. The village of Plaquemine is French Colonial in origin and noted for the annual International Acadian Festival, which pulls Cajun's and a growing number of celebrities from all over the world for the week long party. The Parish' uncommercialized Mardi Gras is also very popular with locals and tourists alike. The French-Creole and mainly the French-Acadian restaurant's and the seafood in the area are worth the visits! The area is well visited by tourists from the world over being the most intact part of the former French Colony, and Antebellum US buffs come as well to the area known as the "Heart of the Plantation High Country" with the highest concentration of pre-Civil War estates left in the US South. The area has three heart's; one is French Creole, one is Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O'Hara "Gone With The Wind" US slavery culture Southern, and the other is thriving and affluent as several large corporations have major offices in the Village. Nottoway, the largest antebellum house left in the US south, is very close by. It alone pull's tourist from all over the globe at several thousand a week. This when the Australian socialite owners are not in residence. Incidentally WE OWN THE HOME NEXT DOOR to this house, a French Colonial era store which we are renovating for our own part time use and we do not need both houses. Adjacent to our home next door is the Maison de Maitre of a very prominent French-Creole family, and several of the area's other most prominent and upstanding families reside in the next blocks in lovely homes both old and new. So location could not be grander in any respect. |
